This picture was taken right after lunch today.  We had gone down to the boat marina in Santa Barbara to eat, and then decided to go for a walk along the breakwater.  We had noticed that the clouds were getting darker as we were eating, but thought we had plenty of time before the rain broke to go walking.

As it turned out, we didn’t!  We had walked about two-thirds of the way to the end of the walkway, when my husband said we had better head back.  He was sure that the rain was going to be coming down any minute.  We turned back, and had gone about half the way when the rain drops started.  By the time we got back to the car, it was raining pretty steady.

We were both a bit wet, but we were happy, and full of smiles.  We had thought we were just going out to get some lunch, but we wound up having an unexpected additional adventure.  We’ve had such a terrible drought the last few years in California, and walking in the rain together was simply pure joy!

I had expected a very different day, but then things changed.  Two clients called to tell me they were sick and needed to reschedule, and a get-together with a friend wound up being postponed.  Those changes left me with unexpected time in my day.  And that led to our decision to head down to the marina.

Being flexible can lead you to unexpected joy!  It’s not guaranteed, but it’s always possible.  Give it a try!

Until next time,
