Your perception creates your reality!  If you see yourself as being old, having little purpose, and not being valued like you were in your earlier days, you will begin to focus on the things that seem to validate this view of yourself.  A mindset like this can lead to isolation, loneliness, lethargy, and eventually to a profound sadness.  If it goes on long enough, it can even lead to a clinical depression.

What if you woke up one morning, and your view of yourself had dramatically changed overnight?  What if you began to see the wisdom you’ve gained through your life experiences, and learned to value it?  What if you looked in the mirror and instead of seeing your wrinkles, you began to notice the wonderful way your eyes crinkled at the corners when you smiled a gentle smile?  What if you began to see yourself with kindness and appreciation, instead of harsh judgement?  Would you wonder if somehow you’d had fairy dust sprinkled on you as you slept?   Whether it was fairy dust —  or a mental shift, it could potentially lead to a major change in how you went about your day!

The daily choices we make are created by the way we mentally construct our view of the world, and our place in it.  If that view could change, there’s a very good likelihood that the choices we make would also change.  Would you feel the same need to isolate, if you truly believed that you had something of great value to offer to the world?  Would you still feel it was too late to follow your dreams, if you focused on what you can do, instead of what you can’t?  Would you feel defeated, if you mindset was on your strengths and resiliency, rather than your weaknesses and missteps?

I truly believe that change is always possible!  That’s why I’m creating a local group for women, aged 50 and above.  This is the third post I’ve written on this, because I believe with the encouragement, inspiration, and support of other women, miracles can happen!  Profound shifts can take place!  I will be there facilitating the interactions, and sharing what I’ve learned through my education, training, and experiences (both professional and personal).  To learn more about this group, and to reserve your spot in it, call 805-569-0264, or email linda@counselinginsb.com  There’s only a little over a week left to ensure that you’re included.  Don’t miss out!

There are still so many wonderful life experiences ahead of you, if you only learn to see the possibilities!

Until next time,

Linda

  • This sounds like a wonderful group that will support women in tapping into their positive cores and will change their mindsets about aging. Thanks for providing such a wonderful support!

    • Thank you, Lynn! I’m really looking forward to getting started with this group. I think it will be a wonderful place for women to recognize their own individual strengths, and to connect with others for mutual encouragement, inspiration, and support, for the benefit of all.
