Last month, I wrote 3 blog posts (posts: one, two, and three) about my decision to begin a women’s group.  It’s for women, who are aged 50 and above.  It didn’t seem to me that there were enough resources available to inform, motivate and support them in creating more peace of mind, a deeper life-satisfaction, and a steadier sense of happiness.  I wanted to begin a group that would be there for them — to improve things in my little corner of the world.

Last week was our first group meeting.  It was a wonderful experience for me to see how quickly they bonded, how freely they all shared, and how generously they supported each other.  These women were strangers when they came, but they left as a connected group.  I think the evening felt powerful for all of us!

The reason I’m writing about this is to encourage you to be tenacious with anything that you really want to do.  I had wanted to create this group for a long time, but for one reason or another it didn’t happen.  Last week it did!  It happened when it was meant to happen.  I learned a lot on my journey to try and bring it about.  I know I’ll learn a lot more as I continue with this wonderful group of women.

What if I had given up?  What if I had decided that it just wasn’t meant to be?  These particular women would probably never have come together, and the gifts they were meant to share with each other, would have gone unshared.  To me, that feels pretty sad!  I’m so glad that I didn’t give up, and I’m so glad that I didn’t take the earlier “failures” as any kind of personal critique.

Is there something that you’ve been really wanting to do?  Are you on the verge of giving up on the whole idea?  Please, don’t quit on yourself — or on the gifts that you’re meant to share.  The world needs all of us to shine brightly!  Learn to believe in yourself, and keep on keeping on — until your dreams become a reality!

Until next time,

Linda

  • Lovely, Linda!

I have sensed for a long while that this is what you are meant to do (among other things) and I am so pleased that it finally came together for you…in perfect timing! I admire you for persevering past the obstacles and holding the vision for yourself and these women until it manifested. Many Blessings of self-awareness and personal growth to your group.

    Hugs, Teri

    • Thank you so much, Teri! I really appreciate your consistent support, and technical expertise along the way. I really believe that we all have a reason for being. And…I think reaching out to people who are struggling, then helping them to value themselves and their strengths, while they in turn connect with warmth and caring to others, is one of the paths I’m meant to walk. I love that this group is going to help take me farther down this path, as I help them to walk their own paths. Thank you for the blessings sent to all!

      Many hugs back to you,

      Linda

  • I’m so glad you went for your dream! Thank you for sharing how your first meeting went, what a gift!

    • You’re so welcome, and thank you for your kind comment! I love the way women know how to support each other. Please tell any of the women you know who might be struggling that there’s a safe place to come for support and inspiration.

  • Linda,
I read your experience with great interest. A little over three years ago I started a group that was all women, (with men allowed if they wanted to come), about social media and online marketing.
I wanted to learn more and be more active and thought if I had a group to be responsible too that I’d stay on target and active and make progress.
What I didn’t realize is that we’d become a group of important people to each other. My goal of improving my skills was well and truly reached and I made new groups.
There is something about a group that can transcend what your expectations of it are. When I read this about the joy you derived from starting this group you made me appreciate how this happened in my life. And I thank you for that Linda. I’m so happy for you that you created this community of women and may it add strength and happiness to each one of the members.

  • Thank you, Calla! I believe so much in the power of connection. I’m glad that your group has fulfilled your need on many different levels, as I’m sure it has for the members also. We grow through the experiences we have, and from the people who share our journey through life. I know that I have learned so much from others, and I’m happy to be able to share some of what I’ve learned with those I meet, whether professionally or personally.

  • This is very inspirational and motivates me to go above and beyond to go after my dreams. The pieces of my life are all starting falling into place nicely, which encourages me to work even harder for my clients so that their lives can do the same. That’s what I want to do at the moment.

I hope this group continues to grow with success!

    • Thank you, Lisa! It does feel good when the pieces of our lives start falling into place. I’m happy for you, and I’m glad that you want to share this with your clients. Thank you for the good wishes for my group!

  • Thank you Linda. Always good to hear stories of others who keep chipping away and are rewarded. Sometimes it’s difficult for me to keep the faith. Your post has helped me.

    • You’re so welcome, Amy. I’m really happy to hear that this post was helpful to you! It is hard to keep the faith when things just don’t seem to be falling into place. I think that it becomes easier when we come together and help support each other.
