It only takes a small moment in time to leave a beautiful memory behind!  Last week, I was sitting and talking with a friend, on a bench in downtown Santa Barbara, right in front of Tienda Ho.  It’s a unique store, with exotically beautiful, soft, flowing clothing and accessories.

As we were sitting there, my attention was drawn to a woman walking down the sidewalk toward us.  She had the most beautiful smile!  I’m not good at guessing ages, but she appeared to be in her late 60’s, or maybe early to mid 70’s.  Her face just glowed with a gentle happiness.  Her walk was slow and easy.  Her being radiated peace and joy!

I watched as she walked into the store.  She was easily visible through the two open, glass doors.  She spent several minutes looking at the clothing on the racks.  She looked like she had all the time in the world to take in the beauty around her.  She was dressed in similar clothing to what was in the store, so I’m guessing this wasn’t the first time she had ventured inside.

After a few minutes, she walked back outside and down the street, with the same mindful manner, with the same glowing smile.  I have no idea who she was, or anything about her, but her image has stayed with me.  I’ve wondered if others noticed her as she went about her day.   I’ve wondered if she always looks so delighted with life, or was there something special about that day.

It made me think of what others notice about each of us.  Do we brighten their days?  Do we give them a small, beautiful memory to hold onto?  Do we share a radiant smile, and maybe a kind word with them?

I hope so!  If I see you out and about, I hope I’m smiling and at ease.  I don’t want to be locked behind an intense, worried frown, lost in my own thoughts.  I don’t want to be hurrying down the street, not seeing the beauty and blessings around me.  If our paths cross, I hope I offer you something of value to brighten your day.

The woman I saw last week, left an indelible memory for me.  She was a vision of grace.   Without a word ever being shared, she uplifted and moved me to a greater sense of peace and happiness.  I hope I can do the same for someone else sometime.   Those small moments of time count!

Until next time,

Linda

  • Linda you have such a peaceful aura about yourself.. I loved spending time with you. Your voice was soothing and you have eye contact like the person you are talking with is the only person in the room. You can spend just minutes with you and know your heart is full of love and caring. I don’t think it’s something you learned it’s just who you are. Very special.

    • Thank you so much, Barb! Those are very kind comments. I believe in being really present when I’m talking with someone. That’s the way I am able to show my love and caring. I think we all need to feel that we’re worthy of that focused attention. Our lives are enriched by our meaningful connections. I’m very thankful for the many years of connection with you and Brenda.

      Take care,

      Linda
