One of the biggest contributors to our feeling stressed and overwhelmed is our inability to be really present for the moments of our lives. Most of us have learned to be very good at multitasking. We’re rewarded in many ways for doing more than one thing at a time, but when we do this, we’re only giving partial attention to any one thing. Our attention is split, and therefore our ability to reap the complete benefit is also split and diminished.
Give it a try. Focus on just one activity completely, and see if the experience isn’t vastly different! This might take some getting used to, but the rewards are great. You’ll feel so much more relaxed and satisfied. You’ll lower your stress, and those moments of your life will feel more rich and fulfilling. Try really listening to a song, taking a walk in the woods, or savoring that hot, steaming cup of coffee, without needing to distract yourself with anything else. Just relax and immerse yourself in the total experience!
Until next time,
Sounds simple enough to do, but sometimes it is so difficult. Slowing down and savoring the moments are worth the effort. Definitely. Thanks Linda.
Thank you for your comment, Amy! It does sound simple, but our world is so fast-paced, that it can be very challenging to slow it down enough to really be in the moment. It’s helpful to have periodic reminders.
