It’s that time of the year again, when our thoughts turn toward family, friends, good food, and holiday gatherings. We have specific images and thoughts in our minds about how we want our celebration to be. We want it to be very special! We want it filled with breathtaking beauty, abundant happiness, and lots of good cheer.
We know what we want it to be like, but what if the reality is very different? So many of us wind up frustrated, sad, or full of stress when our “perfect holiday” isn’t going to be quite so perfect! It’s hard to be flexible when we continually hear songs, see pictures, and read stories of the idealized holiday experience.
My wish for you is that you can find a way to focus on the possibilities of the day. Create a new way to celebrate! Be open to something different. Allow yourself to linger on gratitude for the blessings you do have, rather than on regret for what is missing. Your day may not be perfect, but it will be a day to treasure if you see it that way. Look for the many moments of joy, and they’ll be revealed!
Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, may your holiday be filled with peace, love, and grace! I wish you a day to believe in the basic goodness of life, and to really open your eyes to the miracles all around you.
Until next time,
